  • GOP VP candidate Sarah Palin discussed a guest worker program with apple farmers in Pennsylvania on Friday. It was the first time she mentioned immigration at a campaign stop. Palin touted John McCain’s support of comprehensive immigration reform.
  • The Feds are charging the former CEO of Agriprocessors, the company raided by ICE in one of the largest raids ever last May, with harboring illegal immigrants. Sholom Rubashkin is the highest-ranking executive to be arrested after an immigration raid.
  • A school district association is urging schools to prepare for immigration raids. The Council of the Great City Schools said that schools should plan to care for children whose parents might be arrested by ICE.
  • The AP notes the growing influence of Asian-American voters in Virginia. Both campaigns are targeting this crucial swing demographic.
  • A North Carolina sheriff is in trouble for sharing his prejudices about Latino immigrants with a reporter. Sheriff Steve Bizzell, who has earned a reputation of being tough on immigration, continues to insist that his concerns about immigrants have more to do with crime than racism.
