- The AP reports that tensions between immigrants and union members led to the largest immigration raid in U.S. history, in Mississippi earlier this week. ICE began investigating Howard Industries three years ago after a union members tipped them off.
- The Miami Herald notes that Cuban issues are no longer as important to Miami voters as they once were. News 21 found the same thing earlier this summer.
- Rep. Lincoln Diaz-Balart (R-Fla.) is getting more attention from the national Republican party this election cycle, because changing Latino demographics are putting his seat in jeopardy. He was picked to be a “rapid response” to the Democrats in Denver this week, bashing Obama in the English and Spanish media.
- Alleged voting irregularities in Bayou La Batre, Ala., in 2004 led to Federal oversight at a municipal election on Tuesday. The town of fewer than 3,000 people is one third Asian, and in 2004 many Asian voters had their ballots changed or their right to vote challenged.
- Rep. Paul Kanjorski, the Pennsylvania Democrat facing a strong challenge in November from immigration hardliner Lou Barletta, might get a boost from Barack Obama’s veep pick Joe Biden, who was born in Kanjorski’s district.
